Where It Goes

The landfill is the last stop, not the first

Once the truck pulls away from your house the load gets sorted, and up to 85% of it never reaches a hole in the ground. Partly because it is the right thing to do, and partly because disposal costs money, so every pound we divert is a pound nobody pays to bury.

Plenty of companies say they recycle. Here is what it actually looks like. We fill roughly two large box trucks a day between the residential and commercial routes. Anything that is not broken, damaged or plain garbage is loaded at the back of the truck so it comes off first at the yard, and it never goes near the transfer station.

Metal goes to scrap

Appliances, bed frames, filing cabinets, the old grill. Metal is pulled out of the load before anything reaches a transfer station and goes to be melted down. It is the single biggest category we divert, and in 2025 it came to over a million pounds.

Usable things get donated

Furniture that is still furniture, working appliances, housewares, tools. If someone else can use it, it goes to someone else, and a lot of it goes to the Epilepsy Foundation, Goodwill, the Salvation Army and local soup kitchens. In 2025 that came to thousands of items that would otherwise have been buried.

Electronics go through proper channels

TVs, monitors, computers. These are regulated for a reason, and they go to certified electronics recycling rather than into a hole in the ground.

Cardboard, paper and books come out

Boxes from the move, the paper in the filing cabinet, the books off the shelves, the packaging around whatever you just replaced, and certain plastics. All of it separates out of the waste stream and gets recycled.

The rest goes to the transfer station

Some of it genuinely has nowhere else to go. Broken particle board, contaminated material, things too far gone to donate. We pay by the ton to dispose of it properly, which is exactly why we work so hard to make that pile small.

Who ends up with it

Anything still in good condition goes to a local charity. We do a lot of work with the Epilepsy Foundation in Manchester, and with Goodwill, the Salvation Army and the soup kitchens in the towns we serve. Working appliances and furniture also go to local veterans.

Some of it we fix or repurpose ourselves rather than passing it on. Old tires have become swing sets and old guitars have become end tables, depending on what turns up and who at the yard has an idea about it.

Wounded Warriors Family Support

A portion of everything we take in goes to the Wounded Warriors Family Support Fund, which supports the families of service members wounded or killed in action. We are veteran owned and our crews include veterans.

We will not pretend it is all of it. While we make every effort to recycle or donate usable items, it is not always possible due to condition, safety or logistical limitations.
