Why Us
Why Use Trash Can Willy's in Cambridge
We come to the unit rather than meeting you down at the street, so the dryer on the third floor and the storage cage in the basement are our carry, not yours.
No job is too big or too small
One dryer carried down from a top-floor walkup off Inman Square, or the whole contents of a storage unit. You name it, we take it, residential or commercial. You point and we remove it from where it sits, and we take care to protect your property on the way through. We are licensed and insured.
We come and get it, permit or no permit
On mattresses the city says it plainly: there are no locations in Cambridge for dropping off items. Furniture past one piece a week needs a prepaid permit before it can go to the curb, and in large buildings the city does not serve, private haulers charge extra for the bulky items. We come to the apartment door instead, take the lot at once and put the disposal inside one price.
We do lease turnovers and multi-family buildings
Lease turnovers are a lot of what we do here. Our crews take pieces apart rather than force them, and they carry from the apartment door rather than meeting you at the street. The stairs are labor, so they are in the quote from the start rather than added on the day.
We clear the whole apartment in one visit
We use the largest trucks in New England, so a whole apartment leaves on one visit rather than a piece a week. Two or three of us come depending on the size of the job, trained personnel who watch your corners, your carpets and your floors on the way out. You get a two-hour appointment window and a call when we are 20 minutes out. Up to 85% of what we haul is recycled or donated: furniture and appliances in good condition to local Cambridge charities, electronics to certified recyclers.
Priced on the work, not the air in the truck
Most junk removal companies charge by how much truck space you use. Bricks or feathers, packed tight or full of air, you can pay the same simply because it takes up the same space. We price the actual job: weight, labor, difficulty and access. And our trucks are huge. Three of many competitors' trucks can fit inside one of ours, which means fewer trips to unload, less time spent dumping and lower costs we can pass on to our customers. Your price is approved before anything moves and doesn't change afterward. Plus, we beat any written quote.
Local. Veteran-owned. No franchise fees.
Steve built Trash Can Willy's on the same principles he learned in the military: show up when we say we will, honor our quote, communicate clearly and leave your property better than we found it. We're local, not a franchise. No call centers, corporate runaround or franchise fees built into your price. We're BBB A+ Accredited, licensed and insured, and a portion of every job supports Wounded Warrior Family Support. Fair pricing. Great communication. No stress. Just a job done right.

Service Areas
The Cambridge neighborhoods we cover

Harvard, Central, Porter, Kendall and Inman are squares rather than neighborhoods, and we work all of them. A job that straddles the Somerville, Belmont, Watertown or Boston line is still one job.

FAQ
Questions we get about junk removal in Cambridge
What does a Cambridge apartment cleanout cost?
It comes down to what the load weighs, the labor it takes and how hard it is to reach. Single items start at $35, $40 comes off any job above that, and the crew confirms the number before anything is lifted. A studio is a small job and a four-bedroom off Central Square is a bigger one. If you are not sure what you have, describe it on the phone, stairs and carry included, and we will tell you roughly where it lands before we come.
Do I have to be there while you work?
No. As long as we can get into the unit and you have approved the price, we are fine on our own, and plenty of Cambridge jobs are arranged by a landlord, a property manager or a parent who lives in another state. We call when we are on the way, walk you through the cleared rooms by phone before we leave, and take payment by card. If you would rather be there, that works too.
Can you book around a lease-end move?
Yes, and it is worth booking early. Lease turnovers are most of what we do here, and trucks, elevators and parking all get spoken for at once. We book to your lease date, work around the window your movers have, and clear whatever is left once they have gone. Call or text 603-490-2177 as soon as you have a date.
Can your truck get down my street in Cambridgeport or Wellington-Harrington?
Yes. We run a 20-foot box truck, so on the tight blocks we work the approach out before the day rather than discovering it on the day. We stop where we can stop legally and carry from the door rather than meeting you at the street. Tell us the street and the parking when you book.
How fast can you get to Cambridge?
Our Massachusetts work runs out of Framingham, about 20 miles west, so we come east over the river bridges or in on Route 2 through Alewife, and Cambridge is a regular run rather than a special trip. Same-day or next-day is often possible.
How do you quote a job?
Call or text 603-490-2177 with a description or a few photos and we give you a price range on the spot. That phone quote is our best guess, not a binding number. When the crew arrives they look at the job and confirm the exact price before any work starts. Once you approve it, it does not change. For big jobs and full cleanouts we come out for a free on-site estimate, Monday to Friday 9 to 5.
Do you beat other quotes?
Yes. Bring us any written estimate from another company and we beat it by up to 10%. And every week we draw one customer's completed job and refund it in full, so keep your receipt.
Do I need to be home?
Not if we can get to the stuff. Plenty of jobs are booked by phone, hauled while you're at work, and closed out with photos and a card payment. If access is tight or you want to point at things yourself, be there and we'll walk it with you.
When will you actually show up?
You get a two-hour arrival window and a courtesy call about 20 minutes out, so you're not sitting around all day. Most single-item pickups are done inside an hour of the truck arriving.
What won't you take?
Hazardous waste is the short list: wet paint or stain, gasoline and other flammable liquids loose in cans or drums, propane tanks, solvents, acids, antifreeze, motor oil, asbestos and medical waste. A mower, generator or snow blower with fuel or oil still in it is fine: we drain it as part of the job. Fully dried latex paint is fine. Everything else, if two people can lift it and it fits in the truck, we take it.
How do I pay, and how does the $40 off work?
Credit, debit, cash, or estate, certified and business checks. No personal checks. You get an emailed receipt before the truck leaves. Mention the coupon when you book any job and we take $40 off the quoted price, one per job.
